Don’t Bury It

Learning of a friend’s tragedy really hit me hard last week. Things of this nature cause me to question even if briefly, why we are here and what life really means. I know I have a purpose and God has a plan for my life. I know there is work for me to do here, but knowing how fragile life can be causes me to need a boost to my faith sometimes.

I need more faith because otherwise the future would seem bleak. Why make plans if I have no guarantee that it will come to pass? Why give my all in love without knowing if that person will always love me back or even be around to share it with me?

Sometimes I really do feel like men make plans and God laughs because He knows better.

However, I am reminded of the parable Jesus told where three servants were entrusted with portions of their master’s income. Two of the men invested the money and one, fearing risk or loss, buried his in the sand. The two who invested the money earned a profit for their master. The one who buried his of course did not earn anything. The master was angry with the servant who buried the money but for those who doubled what he gave them he said:

“Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!” (Matthew 25:13-38 NIV)

If I stopped moving forward out of fear of what may or may not happen, I would be like the fool who buried money in the dirt instead of putting it to good use. If I refused to live, that would indicate a lack of gratitude for the life God has blessed me with. It would also demonstrate a total lack of faith and trust that God knows best, even if I don’t understand this life at times.

Thank God that as I trust Him and take even the most timid steps of faith, He reveals that He is with me all the way. His Provision for me is beyond what I know how to ask for. He is so creative in the ways that He shows His Faithfulness.

Yes, I will keep moving and keep expecting to see God in my life. I will continue to bless Him and thank Him for each new day because He is Good.

Daniel 2:20-22 (New International Version)

“Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are his. He changes times and seasons; he sets up kings and deposes them. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning. He reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with him.
